Geographical origin traceability of Xiaobai apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.cv.) using stable isotope and multi-element analysis

摘要: Origin mislabeling of Xiaobai apricot products from Xinjiang province has significantly disrupted market integrity and brand reputations. In this work, a total of 90 Xiaobai apricot samples, along with their corresponding cultivated soil and irrigation water, were collected from 7 regions in Xinjiang for origin traceability study. 4 stable isotope ratios, 27 mineral element contents, and 17 rare earth contents were determined and for statistical analysis. The formation pathways and regional differences of stable isotope and multi-element signatures of Xiaobai apricot with eco-system were revealed by correlation analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA), delta C-13, delta N-15 and rare earth elements were important variables (p < 0.05). Multivariate modeling based on stable isotope, mineral element or/and rare earth element data was applied for classifying samples from 7 origins. The results demonstrated that linear discriminant analysis (LDA) achieved optimal classification performance, with discrimination accuracies of 100 % for most origins except for 3 sub-origins in Aksu (the accuracy is just 50 % for their alone but still 100 % when be regarded as a whole origin). This strategy may provide a reliable tool for combating origin mislabeling conducts and ensuring food authenticity of Xiaobai apricot products in Chinese market.
