摘要: Soil respiration (Rs) is a major component of terrestrial carbon cycling, which varies greatly with spatial heterogeneity or under grazing. There is scant evidence for the interactive effects of microtopography and grazing on Rs, particularly in alpine swamp meadow ecosystems where hummocks and hollows are common micro topographic features. We conducted a grazing exclusion experiment in an alpine swamp meadow on the central Tibetan Plateau. Seasonal variation in Rs and relevant environmental factors were observed between hummocks and hollows in the free grazing plots and grazing exclusion plots. The growing season Rs was significantly higher in the hummocks than that in the hollows. The responses of Rs to grazing varied greatly with microtopographic heterogeneity, with grazing significantly decreasing Rs in the hummocks but greatly increasing Rs in the hollows. The grazing-induced relative changes in aboveground biomass, belowground biomass, soil organic carbon and microbial biomass carbon were positively correlated with the changes in Rs. Grazing and microtopography caused changes in soil temperature and microbial biomass were the major factors that driving the seasonal variation in Rs. This information stresses the importance of hummock-hollow microtopography in regulating carbon cycling in grazed alpine swamp meadows.
