Crystal structure, thermal decomposition kinetics and antimicrobial activities of [Zn(eatZ)(2)(OAC)(2)] (eatz=5-ethyl-2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole)

摘要: The synthesis and characterization of a Zn(II) complex with 5-ethyl-2-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole (eatz) are described. The crystal structure of [Zn(eatz)(2)(OAC)(2)] was determined by X-ray diffraction. The crystal belongs to the monoclinic system and the structural unit is a distorted tetrahedron. In this complex, eatz acts as a monodentate ligand coordinating through the thiadiazole N atom to Zn(II), and the crystal structure is mainly stabilized by both intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonds. Thermal analysis reveals that the complex [Zn(eatz)(2)(OAC)(2)] decomposes in three transitions to give Zn(CN)(2) as the end product at 650 degreesC in N-2 atmosphere. The thermal decomposition kinetic analysis of the title complex indicates that the first transition is a double-step reaction with the main reaction being an nth auto-catalysis one. A biological activity study shows that both the ligand and the complex have good antimicrobial activities against Staphylococcus aureus. (C) 2004 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
