The effect of 1-MCP on fruit ripening and glycometabolism in banana

摘要: 1-methylcyclopropene (1-MCP) has been widely used to enhance the shelf life of fruit during postharvest storage conditions. The results of this study showed that the use of 1-MCP effectively delayed the fruit ripening and softening processes by reducing ethylene production and the rate of respiration. Moreover, 1-MCP delayed starch degradation and sucrose accumulation by inhibiting the activities of amylase, sucrose phosphate synthase (SPS), sucrose synthase (SS), neutral converting (NI), and acidic converting (AI) enzymes. However, the sugar contents were higher in the 1-MCP treated banana compared to control and propylene treated banana fruit at the end of ripening process. Transcriptome analysis showed that a large number of differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified under 1-MCP and propylene treatment as compared to the control. The DEGs related to the ethylene signal transduction pathway, respiration rate, and cell wall degradation were significantly repressed, while the lignin biosynthesis were significantly up-regulated under the 1-MCP treatment, whereas propylene showed contrasting results. Moreover, the gene related to starch metabolism ( MaAMY3, MaBAM1, and MaBAM2) and sucrose ( MaSUS1, MaSPS4, SWEET4, and CNINV2) were significantly repressed under the 1-MCP treatment in contrast to propylene treatment. A large number of transcription factors such as bHLH, NAC, MYB, bZIP and WRKY, significantly correlated with plant hormones, cell wall degradation, and lignin biosynthesis, as well as with starch and sucrose metabolic pathways were identified. The present work provides useful information for the 1-MCP application on banana fruit quality control.
