Hotspot Analysis of Rumen Microbiota and Methane Mitigation in Ruminants: A Bibliometric Analysis from 1998 to 2023

摘要: Enteric methane (CH4) is mainly produced by methanogens during the anerobic fermentation of ingested carbohydrates (fiber and starch) in the rumen. The aim of this study was to investigate the research and dynamic trends regarding rumen microbiota and CH4 emissions. Using the Web of Science (WoS) database, we conducted a comprehensive review of 189 relevant papers published from 1998 to 2023 and analyzed them using CiteSpace and VOSviewer. The results showed that most of the papers were written by biologists, and dairy products and animal science accounted for a relatively small number of publications. Chinese scholars contributed the most in this field (22.2%, 42 papers), ranking first in the world. The analysis of research interest found that the use of exogenous additives to regulate CH4 emissions from ruminant livestock has received increasing attention in recent years. In terms of research trends, traditional animal nutrition studies accounted for most of the research before 2015, but with the development of microbiome technology, the research focus gradually shifted to understanding the CH4 generation pathway mechanism. From the perspective of keywords, the focus of enteric CH4 research has gradually shifted from phenotype indicators such as growth performance and digestibility to the level of microbial mechanisms such as protozoa and methanogens. Despite the advancements that have been made, there remains a pressing need for further investigation into sustainable and effective CH4 mitigation strategies.
