摘要: In this work, Glycerol, as a stoichiometric co-product of biodiesel, was converted into lactic acid at unprecedented high yields (99.7%, 4 h) under hydrothermal conditions with an activated carbon supported NiCo (Ni5Co5/AC) catalyst. Although Co/AC showed negligible activity (<5% yield) towards glycerol conversion, its combination with Ni (Ni5Co5/AC) exhibited lactic acid selectivities higher than 99%. The structure of NiCo alloy as well as its interaction between metals and support showed that the addition of Co increased Ni dispersion on the surface of the activated carbon and enhanced catalytic activity. The possible acceleration effects of alkali additives (NaOH or Ba (OH)(2)) on the reaction, as well as the synergistic and antagonistic effects of metal cations (Na+ or Ba2+) and gases (N-2 or O-2) on the metal catalytic sites were investigated. The presence of Na+ in solution inhibited the activity of NiFe but promoted the activity of NiCo, with the inhibitory effect of Na+ increasing in the presence of O-2. In the presence of Ba2+, both NiCo and NiFe exhibited similar performance, while the presence of O-2 exerted a promotive effect on the catalytic activity of the above two catalysts. This work illustrates quantitative conversion of glycerol to lactic acid, thus affording a sustainable method for biodiesel production appreciation.
