METAL DISTRIBUTION IN WATER, SEDIMENT, SUBMERGED PLANT, AND FISH FROM AN URBAN RIVER IN ZUNYI, SOUTHWEST OF CHINA

摘要: The aim of present study was to investigate the concentrations of Cu, Zn, Ni, Mn, Pb, Cd, Cr, As, and Hg in water, sediment, submerged plants (Potamogeton pectinatus, Elodea nuttallii, and Ceratophyllum demersum), and tissues of fish species (Carassius auratus and Hemicculter leuciclus) from the main urban section of the Xiangjianghe River. The results showed that the concentrations of all metals except Hg were much lower than the values of grade one, which is the highest standard of water quality in China. The metal concentrations in sediment showed a general trend of Mn > Zn > Cr > Pb > Cu > Ni > As > Cd > Hg. E. nuttallii had the highest mean concentrations of all metals compared to P. pectinatus and C. demersum. All the metal concentrations in liver of C. auratus and H. leuciclus were significantly higher than that in muscle, with the exception of Hg. Potential risk in sediment cannot be ignored in this study area.
