Eu-O-P bond-mediated suppression of ligand-to-metal charge transfer in metal-organic frameworks for ratiometric fluorescent detection of ethephon

摘要: Monitoring ethephon (ETH) residues is essential for assessing environmental and human health risks, enabling effective risk management strategies. Herein, we engineered a ratiometric fluorescent and visual europium (Eu) metal-organic frameworks (EuMOF) loaded enoxacin (ENX) for ETH analysis, leveraging the Eu-O-P bond-mediated suppression of ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT). The sensor, termed ENX@EuMOF, exhibited distinct dual fluorescence responses to phosphate from the decomposition of ETH, characterized by decreased emission at 612 nm and increased emission at 520 nm. The energy transfer (ET) and LMCT between Eu3+ and ligands was systematically investigated in response to Eu-O-P bond in detection system of ETH. The sensor demonstrated exceptional analytical performance, achieving a limit of detection of 0.5 mg/L with high selectivity towards ETH. Furthermore, we engineered a portable detection system by integrating the ENX@EuMOF sensor with paper-based analytical devices and smartphone technology. A YOLO v8-based software for image color detection facilitates real-time, intelligent ETH detection, presenting an effective and practical sensing platform for agricultural monitoring.
