摘要: The production of medium-chain carboxylic acids (MCCAs) from agricultural wastes through fermentation presents an innovative approach to enhance the economic value of these byproducts. However, the optimal molar ratio of electron donors (ED) to electron acceptors (EA), which are key parameters for the production of MCCAs from mixed fermentation broth, remains unclear. In this study, the effect of five different ED and EA molar ratios in swine manure (SM) fermentation broth on the production of MCCAs its mechanism was investigated. Results showed that ED/EA molar ratio affects the MCCAs synthesis through the lactic acid (LA) conversion pathway. When the molar ratio of LA functioning as the ED to acetic acid served as the EA was 2:1, the metabolic process of the LA conversion to MCCAs predominantly follows the pyruvate pathway. This pathway lowers Gibbs free energy, both MCCAs and caproic acid productivity reached the peak of 39.25 % and 30.98 %, respectively. With the gradual increase in the ED/EA molar ratio from 2 to 5, the acrylic acid pathway intensifies, necessitating a higher driving force of Gibbs free energy and resulting in a delayed peak time for MCCAs production. When the ED/EA molar ratio was 2, the enrichment of key functional microorganisms comprised Eubacterium and Bacteroides, both playing important roles in the production of caproic acid. This study provided an innovative approach to enhance animal manure utilization value.
