MODELLING AND ANALYSIS OF WATER QUALITY FOR RESERVOIR IN THE NORTHERN COLD REGION OF CHINA

摘要: In this study, the Xinlicheng Reservoir, which is the most typical reservoir in the cold region of northern China was selected as the research object. A new stratified water quality model of the reservoir was constructed to simulate and analyze Water Temperature (WT) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) concentration in both open-water and ice -covered periods. The parameters of the model were calibrated and verified. Results showed that the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) value between the observed and simulated water level was 4.47%; the MAPEs between the observed and simulated water temperature at sampling site were 10.4%, 9.3% and 16.2%, respectively; and the MAPEs between the observed and simulated COD concentration were 5.49%, 5.44%, 7.43%, respectively. The COD decay rate was 0.001 per day in open-water period and 0.0008 per day in ice -covered period. For water temperature, the changes were directly related to air temperature, with three obvious phases detected. The simulation results reflected the hydrodynamic, water temperature, and COD transport processes of the Xinlicheng Reservoir accurately. The model could be applied to predict the fate and transport of contaminants in the Xinlicheng Reservoir and potentially other similar cold -region reservoirs and lakes of China.
