Shading net application in protected vegetable production in China

摘要: Protected cultivation is very important in China. Since the 1980s, cover materials such as plastic films and shading nets have been used more and more in agriculture in Mainland China. The total area of protected vegetable cultivation in different types of greenhouse reached 2,536,074 ha in 2004 and the main crops are vegetables, melons, watermelons, fruit trees and flowers. The use of shading nets has become very popular in China due to the very high temperatures in the summer season (35 similar to 42 degrees C). At present the total area of shading nets is more than 200 million m(2). it is mainly used for cultivation and raising vegetable seedlings. Shading nets are used in order to take precautions against natural calamities, to tap the latent power of agriculture, to provide sustainable vegetable production with high quality and high output. This paper will generally introduce shading net applications in protected vegetable production in China.
