A simulation model for evaluating solar radiation environment in a Chinese style lean-to greenhouse

摘要: Among the key factors affecting greenhouse environment, solar radiation (sunlight) is the limiting one in production. It is very special for the greenhouses that wouldn't provide auxiliary heat and mainly depend on solar energy to meet the thermal and lighting requirement of crop growth in cold reason. In this paper, a computer model was developed for simulating solar radiation inside a Chinese Style Lean-to Greenhouse, which have proliferated in China since the early 1980's. The model includes both direct and diffuse radiation effects, and the different kinds of curved plastic lighting roof were simulated. The distribution and the daily variation of solar radiation on the floor, on the back vertical wall, as well as on the rear inclined roof were studied respectively. In order to validate this model, a data logging system was designed and made to collect experimental data in a small greenhouse model. The results proved that the computer model can be taken as a analysing tool and provide references for acceptable design of greenhouses that should be for optimum use of available solar radiation.
