摘要: Insect pests are one of the major threats to plant productivity and survival. Plants respond to insect attack through perception of insect effectors and activation of multiple signaling components including reactive oxygen species, Ca2+ and MAP kinases. The defense signaling in turn is regulated by phytohormones, secondary metabolites, volatile compounds, physical barriers, defense proteins and transcription factors. The emergence of genomics and genetic engineering has facilitated the identification of multiple molecular components and their usage in inducing insect resistance. In the present review, we discuss about various strategies used by plants in response to insect herbivory with special reference to various molecular and genomic approaches towards insect resistance. Expansion of molecular approaches to understand plant-insect interaction will be a priority in future towards development of novel insect resistant plant varieties.
