摘要: Grafting cultivation is an effective method to improve watermelon production. However, grafting may affect fruit development and quality. In this research we observed that pumpkin-grafted (PG) watermelon fruits developed slower and had an extended ripening period compared to self-grafted (SG) fruits. The concentrations of ABA among endogenous phytohormones were dramatically reduced after grafting using pumpkin rootstock. In order to understand these changes from the gene expression level, we performed a comprehensive transcriptome analysis of the fruit flesh development between PG and SG. 1675-4102 genes were deferentially expressed between PG and SG during fruit development, and functional enrichment analysis revealed that these deferentially expressed genes were associated with carbohydrate biosynthesis, phytohormone signaling transmission and cell wall metabolism categories. ABA signaling related genes were co-expressed with fruit ripening. These results provide a valuable resource for understanding the mechanism of grafting cultivation effect on watermelon quality development and fruit ripening.
