摘要: Microbes are important drivers of global carbon cycle and influence terrestrial biogeochemistry, but there is still limited information on the mechanisms that link the community assembly processes of abundant and rare bacterial subcommunities to soil carbon dynamics. To address this knowledge gap, we conducted a study on the assembly processes of abundant and rare bacterial subcommunities across soil profiles (0-10, 10-20, 20-40, 40-60 cm) in the paddy ecosystem. The results indicated that both abundant and rare bacterial subcommunities were controlled by stochastic processes, while deterministic processes contributed more to the assembly of rare bacterial subcommunity than to abundant bacterial subcommunity. The community assembly processes were significantly correlated with soil organic carbon (SOC) content, and the response of abundant and rare taxa to variations in SOC content varied widely. Additionally, the assembly processes of rare bacterial subcommunity contributed more significantly to soil carbon metabolism than those of abundant taxa. Our research highlighted how the assembly of abundant and rare bacterial subcommunities could have varying impacts on carbon metabolism across soil profiles, indicating a promising avenue for further investigation to better connect community assembly with ecosystem functions.
