Transgenerational Sublethal Effects of sulfoxaflor on the Suppression of Aphis citricola Van der Goot (Hemiptera: Aphididae)

摘要: The spirea aphid Aphis citricola Van der Goot is a serious fruit trees pest in China. Sulfoxaflor is a novel sulfoximine insecticide that has been widely used to control sucking insect pests. This study aimed to investigate the transgenerational sublethal effects of sulfoxaflor on the biological traits and metabolic enzymes activities of A. citricola. Our results showed that sublethal concentrations of sulfoxaflor (LC10 and LC20) significantly reduced the adult longevity and fecundity of the F0 generation. Furthermore, the development time of the first instar nymph and the pre-adult of F1 generation were significantly prolonged. The total prereproductive period (TPRP) and the mean generation time (T) of the F1 generation were also significantly extended. Consequently, the fecundity, intrinsic rate of increase (rm), and finite rate of increase (lambda) of the F1 generation were significantly diminished. Additionally, the activities of cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (P450) and carboxylesterase (CarE) in A. citricola were enhanced following treatment with sublethal concentrations of sulfoxaflor, indicating their involvement in the detoxification of sulfoxaflor. These results indicate that sublethal concentrations of sulfoxaflor inhibited the development and reproduction of A. citricola in both the exposed generation and the subsequent generation, leading to a suppression of population growth over two consecutive generations. This research provides a foundation for a deeper understanding of the intergenerational sublethal effects of sulfoxaflor and suggests that sulfoxaflor has promising potential for controlling A. citricola.
