摘要: Some sources of cytoplasm have been favored in rice breeding for unknown reasons. To study cytoplasmic effects on agronomic traits, five core japonica parents in Oryza sativa, Xinan 175, Reimei, Keqing No. 3, Todorokiwase, and Toride No. 1, which are ancestors of 75% of cultivars bred in Yunnan, China, were used as female parents in crosses with 3 distinct japonica rice cultivars, 8-126, Lijiangxintuanheigu, and Norinmochi No. 20 as males. These nuclear genomes were substituted into the five cytoplasms via seven backcrosses using the original male as recurrent parent. Fifteen combinations of BC7F2 and their parents were sown in Jinghong during the late season (July-October) for agronomic evaluation in 1999. Meanwhile, all materials were screened for low temperature tolerance based upon two methods in Kunming (1916 m above sea level): natural field and low temperature water (19degreesC) cycling irrigation at booting stage. Spikelet fertility was used as an indication of low temperature tolerance. Effects of cytoplasm on yield, width of flag leaf, and low temperature tolerance were significant. Significant cytoplasm-nucleus interaction on yield, plant height, and low temperature tolerance were also observed. These results indicated that cytoplasm and cytoplasm-nucleus interaction played important roles in yield, low temperature tolerance, and some important agronomic traits in japonica rice. The role of cytoplasm and cytoplasm-nucleus interaction should be considered in future rice breeding and resources work.
