Late Blight Management in China

摘要: China has the largest production of potato in the world. Potato late blight is the most devastating disease of potato in China. Based on cropping and climatic conditions, potato late blight occurrence is grouped into four geographic regions. The first region is in northeast of the country, and includes Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning provinces and the eastern part of Inner Mongolia. The second region is located in the north and northwest, and includes the western part of Inner Mongolia, Gansu, Shaanxi, Ningxia, Shanxi and Hebei. The third region, in the southwest part of China, includes Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan and Guizhou. The fourth region in the south and southeast, includes Fujian, Guangdong and Guangxi. Each region has different characters of late blight epidemics. This paper briefly reviews the status of late blight management in different regions, based on the use of resistant cultivars, disease warning and forecast, chemical control, and some other alternate methods. Research development on management of late blight in recent years is reviewed and some suggestions are presented for the future.
