摘要: Muskmelons, a global economic crop, face severe cadmium pollution threatening their safe production. Biochar and nanoscale iron oxide are promising materials for cadmium remediation, but their mechanisms in alleviating cadmium stress are not fully understood. This study conducted pot experiments and analyzed the impact of alpha-Fe2O3 NPs, biochar, and their combination on melon gene expression under cadmium stress through transcriptome sequencing. Results showed that treated melons had similar growth to controls, indicating high cadmium tolerance. Melons mitigated cadmium inhibition by upregulating genes in pathways such as phenylpropanoid biosynthesis, glutathione metabolism, flavonoid biosynthesis, alpha-linolenic acid metabolism, and plant hormone signaling. While alpha-Fe2O3 NPs and biochar alone reduced stress responses and improved growth, their combination enhanced stress responses and inhibited growth. The cadmium stress response mechanisms and cadmium tolerance of melons themselves should not be overlooked, and the effectiveness of cadmium pollution control materials needs to be coordinated with the melon's own cadmium stress response. The study provides insights for safe melon production in cadmium-polluted environments and the application of alpha-Fe2O3 NPs and biochar in alleviating cadmium stress in crops.
