摘要: Frankliniella occidentalis (WFT) has a haplodiploid sex determination system, enabling sexual and parthenogenetic reproduction, leading to rapid population growth and posing a serious threat to global agriculture. The entomopathogenic fungus Beauveria bassiana is an important biocontrol agent available for use against WFT; however, previous research has primarily focused on its acute lethal effects, with limited attention to its longterm impacts on the thrips' reproductive capacity. In this study, we investigated three key reproductive changes in WFT following infection by B. bassiana: courtship behavior, female reproductive system, and fecundity. We found that infected males exhibited a reduced frequency of behaviors associated with successful courtship, while infected females displayed increased rejection behaviors. Infected females also showed a significant reduction in mature egg formation and ovariole tube length. Moreover, the fecundity of infected WFT was diminished, and the sex ratio of the offspring was skewed towards males. Overall, B. bassiana infection significantly impairs the reproductive capacity of WFT, highlighting its potential use in a long-term biocontrol strategy against this pest.
