Effect of Different Environmental Factors on the Novel Fumigant Echylicin Degradation Behavior in Soil

摘要: As a novel alternative to soil fumigants, ethylicin has demonstrated remarkable efficacy in controlling soil-borne diseases, addressing the current shortage of soil fumigants. Because of the specialized pesticide property for soil fumigants, it is crucial to investigate the influence of environmental factors on degradation in order to maximize their efficacy. In this study, the effects of various soil types and environmental conditions on ethylicin degradation characteristics in soil were demonstrated. The degradation rate of ethylicin had a close correlation with the soil types and the half-life in seven tested soils ranged from 1.38 to 7.49 days. Furthermore, the half-life turned out to be a significant negative correlation with soil organic matter content (OM) and pH, and a significant positive correlation with available nitrogen content (AN) on the other hand. The degradation of ethylicin in soil comprised biodegradation and chemical degradation, with microbial degradation accounting for 63.7%-86.7% of the total degradation of ethylicin. The degradation rate decreased with the increase of ethylicin dosages and different soil types showed a similar variation trend. The degradation rate of ethylicin increased significantly with the soil moisture rising and the half-life increased by 4.7-5.4 times when the soil moisture content increased from 6% to 30%. The half-life of ethylicin decreased notably as the temperature increased and was a linear function of the temperature. The degradation rate constant at 45 degrees C was 7.8-15.9 times higher than that at 15 degrees C and the difference in the degradation rate was apparently promoted by the increase of temperature. The interactions between soil characteristics, usage, temperature, and moisture content provide practical application of ethylene as a novel fumigant, thereby enhancing its effective utilization and environmental safety.
