摘要： In order to select new asparagus varieties with high quality and high yield that are well adapted to Northern China areas, evaluation of the traits of 40 trial varieties was carried out. The traits included yield, spear's commercial characters, and days to spear's emergence, growth condition of mature plants, average diameter, height of the primary branches, characters of spear, disease resistance, etc. The results of the trials conducted over a four-year period showed that the varieties Grande, Taramea, Tainan 3, Gloria, Purple Passion, Abril, Atlas, etc. Which displayed a higher adaptability, high quality, high yield and early maturity, well suitable for dissemination in Northern China. Asparagus (Asparagus ofcinalis L.) is a perennial root dioecious plant of the Lily family. Spear is tender, fibers are soft, and the taste is good with a pleasure smell. Because of its excellent quality and taste, it is well named as "the king of vegetables" in the international market. Canned asparagus with a high-quality for export, can fetch a high price in the market. In the 1990's, the planted area which 1050 hectares, became the largest asparagus-planted area in the country. Since China will join the WTO in 2002, there will be a large international market based on quality and price. Joining the WTO will bring about more opportunities and challenges to asparagus production in China. The production of fresh green asparagus, white canned asparagus, deep frozen green asparagus and further processing of asparagus will five the opportunity to penetrate the international market, and become extremely profitable for China's agriculture. However, presently, the conditions of the varieties are not satisfactory and a large number of F2 are still being used. The international asparagus trial varieties, which were selected for cultivation between the 1980-1990s, are F1 hybrid. By compared the test results of each variety, it was enable to determine characters such as yield, quality, disease resistance and adaptability to China's northern areas. At the same time, although China is the largest asparagus-producing country, we cannot cultivate our own F1 hybrid varieties presently and we still depend on imports.
