摘要： Shijiazhuang Pomology Institute, which is attached to the Hebei Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, commenced breeding new strawberry varieties in 1980. Over the past 20 years, the institute has introduced and conserved more than 400 strawberry germplasm resources from domestic and international sources, from which more than 10 high-quality varieties have been selected. Comprehensive evaluation has resulted in the selection of more than 80 parent materials with good characteristics. On this basis, the institute has made more than 400 apolegamic hybridized combinations, cultivated 80,000 hybridized seedling plants, selected more than 100 high-grade strains, bred 6 new varieties, established a hybrid population and a variety screening garden, which are relatively large in China. This activity has been the foundation of a successful breeding program that has not only enriched the germplasm resources in China, but has also resulted in economic and social benefits and given impetus to the development of the strawberry industry.
