Studies of the Main Characters of the Macadamia Cultivar 'Ikaika' (333)

摘要: The growth, yield, kernel quality and wind resistance characteristics of the macadamia cultivar 'Ikaika' (333), introduced from Hawaii, were studied in early stages of development. The results showed that there was no remarkable difference between the growth in tree height, stem diameter and canopy diameter of 'Ikaika' (333), 'Kau' (344), 'Own Choice' (OC), 'Makai' (800) and 'Keauhou' (246). However, the yield of young trees of 'Ikaika' was significantly higher than that of 'Keauhou', 'Kau', 'Makai' and significantly higher than that of 'Own Choice' within the cultivar comparison trial, but higher than that of 'Keauhou', 'Kau', 'Makai' and lower than that of 'Own Choice' in the main macadamia growing regions of China. The yield of 'Ikaika' per tree in China was similar to that reported for South Africa and lower than that of both Australia and Hawaii; the yield per unit area was obviously higher than that of South Africa, the same as that of Australia and a little lower than that of Hawaii. The proportion of kernel, mean kernel weight and oil concentration were similar to those produced in Australia and Hawaii. Under conditions of a 7-11 level wind, the wind resistance of 'Ikaika' was significantly lower than that of 'Own Choice', higher than that of 'Makai' but no different to that of 'Keauhou' and 'Kau'.
