摘要: A new type of male sterility in flax was discovered. The sterility expression was significantly influenced by temperature. Higher field temperature (above 20degreesC) at flowering stage induced better fertility and lower temperature (below 17degreesC) maintained the male sterility. Different lines differed in their thermo-sensitivity. These results indicate that the male-sterile line may be maintained and propagated easily by controlling the temperature during the florescence. Plants from the self-pollinated seeds were 100% sterile, while those from cross pollination with normal fertile varieties were 100% fertile. The cross pollination between the male-sterile sib plants resulted in fertility segregation. The data suggest that this male sterility is inheritable and apparently controlled by recessive nuclear genes. Discovery of stable thermo-sensitive male-sterile materials has made it possible to produce hybrid seeds using a two-line system. The male sterile plants had excellent agronomic characteristics. This male sterility is promising in producing hybrid seeds for commercial production.
