摘要: The rapid expansion of offshore wind farms to meet clean energy demands has raised concerns about the effects of anthropogenic noise on intertidal benthic organisms. Horseshoe crabs (Tachypleus tridentatus), ancient marine invertebrates with a unique copper-based blue blood system, serve as key indicators of intertidal ecosystem health. Despite their ecological and biomedical significance, the effects of anthropogenic noise on copperblooded marine species remain poorly understood. Here, we combine behavioral assays, physiological measurements, and transcriptomic analyses to investigate the impacts of varying noise levels on juvenile T. tridentatus. Our results show dose-dependent increases in mortality and alterations in locomotor activity, with estimated hearing thresholds ranging from 90 to 100 dB. Noise exposure induces oxidative stress, with alpha-actinin identified as a stable reference gene and heat shock protein 70 (Hsp70) as a noise-responsive gene. Disruptions in glucose metabolism and activation of the MAPK signaling pathway suggest protective responses against hearing loss. These findings provide novel insights into anthropogenic noise as an emerging pollutant affecting copperblooded marine invertebrates, underscoring the importance of incorporating acoustic pollution into marine resource assessments.
