Shoot growth and flower bud formation in young Loquat trees grown in sunlight greenhouse in north China

摘要: Analysis of growth of shoots and flower bud formation of young plants of loquat cvs. 'Dahongpao' and 'Guanyu' loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.) grown in sunlight greenhouses in north China were studied and indicated that flush growth occurred 4 to 5 times in a year. Weak thickening growth took place 2 to 3 times in the winter and spring, while active thickening growth occurred twice in the summer and autumn. Spring shoot emerged in late January; summer shoot in early to middle June; autumn shoot in middle August; and winter shoot in middle to late November. Flower bud formation began in middle to late October; and fruit set initiated in early to middle March. If there were warming facilities in the greenhouse, and the lowest temperature was kept over 10 degrees C in winter, the fruit set could be advanced to middle to late February. Young plants of 'Dahongpao' and 'Guanyu' loquats produced large number of shoots that grew fast in the summer. Floral percentage among shoots and among plants in two-year-old 'Dahongpao' loquat was 28.6 and 83% respectively. 'Dahongpao', which bears fruit early and has a high yield, is suitable for cultivation in the sunlight greenhouse in north China.
