Effect of early feeding on the yolk nutrient utilization by goslings after hatching

摘要: Experiments were conducted to assess the differences in body weight, yolk sac weight and yolk utilization of fasted and fed goslings during posthatch period. A total of 420 healthy new born goslings (210 male and 210 female) were selected and randomly distributed into two groups. One group was fasted and the other was fed. There were three pens in each group, with 70 birds (35 male and 35 female) in each pen. Six goslings were selected randomly from each pen (3 male and 3 female) at 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5 d after hatching for liveweight, yolk reserve weight, yolk crude protein, crude fat and energy content determination. Results showed that, during the whole period, the body weight of fasted goslings decreased while that of those fed increased, and the difference between two groups was significant (P < 0.05). Yolk weight (yolk sac plus yolk) decreased exponentially, while the weight decrease of the fed goslings was more rapid than in fasted goslings (P < 0.05). Energy, crude protein and crude fat contents of the yolk decreased exponentially, and these nutrients of the fed goslings were decreased significantly faster than those of the fasted goslings (P < 0.05). Results of the present study demonstrated that the effect of early feeding on the body weight and utilization of the yolk was similar for goslings and chickens, and also suggested that early feeding should be used during posthatch period.
