A phenotypic diversity analysis of maize germplasm preserved in China

摘要: Phenotypic diversity, in terms of Shannon-Weaver diversity indices, of a total of 13,521 maize landraces and 3258 maize inbred lines preserved in China National Genebank were analyzed in the present study. The results revealed that the phenotypic diversity of the landraces associated with the geographic sources but that of the inbred lines had no clear relation with geographic sources. Generally, the diversity in the landraces was larger thin that in the inbreds, which indicated the importance of conserving and using landraces. Strategies for effective preservation and utilization of maize germplasm in China are also proposed.
