The occurrence of Chilo sacchariphagus and its egg parasitoid wasps in sugarcane plantations in Guangxi, China

摘要: The white grub, Alissonotum impressicolle Arrow, is an important underground pest of sugarcane in Guangxi, China. The soil physicochemical properties were analyzed to determine suitable areas for the occurrence of A. impressicolle. Soil samples at 5-20 cm depth were collected from different sugarcane planting areas and analyzed for pH and organic matter content. The soil pH levels were significantly different in various sugarcane planting areas. From the average pH values observed in the different areas sampled, most had acidic soil. No significant difference in pH was detected between paddy fields and sloping fields, but the organic matter content of paddy fields was higher than that of sloping fields. Among the 49 soil samples, 30.61% and 34.69% were slightly acidic and neutral, respectively, and 65.30% contained organic matter in the range of 20-40 g/kg. Therefore, our results indicated that neutral or slightly acidic soils with abundant organic matter are more attractive to A. impressicolle. Although there are different types of soil pH and organic matter in different sugarcane growing areas in Guangxi, A. impressicolle has strong adaptability to both parameters and has the potential to damage other sugarcane planting areas in Guangxi.
