Improving the anti-corrosion functionality of steel surface exposed to aggressive environments via ultrasonic-assisted laser-silicone oilation for farming applications

摘要: Superhydrophobic surface was fabricated on SS304L by an innovative Ultrasonic-assisted Laser-Silicone Oilation (ULSO) treatment method. The SS304L surface was firstly textured by a UV nanosecond laser and then treated by immersing in the silicone oil solution accompanied with ultrasonic vibration. The surface morphology and the surface chemistry of the ULSO surfaces were explored by 3D digital microscope, scanning electron microscope, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The corrosion resistance of the ULSO surfaces was conducted by both electrochemical test and immersion test. By combining the specific surface microstructure and surface chemistry which was provided by the laser texturing process and ultrasonic vibration assisted silicone oil immersion process respectively, the surface wettability and corrosion resistance of the ULSO surfaces were significantly changed. The experimental results indicated that the ULSO surfaces obtained superior water repellency with the water contact angle higher than 150 degrees. In the meantime, the ULSO surfaces exhibited excellent anti-corrosion properties, indicating that the ULSO surfaces possess a longer lifetime with less corrosion. This work represents a highly efficient attempt to fabricate functional surfaces for farming industries with the extra demand of non-toxicity and low cost, which can help to increase the service time of the farming facilities and improve the living environment of the animals.
