The Distribution and Grading of Biological Characters in Ziziphus jujuba Mill.

摘要: China has the World's richest germplasm resources for Chinese jujube. A total of 248 cultivars from all over China conserved in National Repository of Chinese Jujube, Pomology Institute of Shanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences were sampled in this study. We examined 23 biological characters of plants in this collection to determine range and distribution of these measurements, and assigned many well-known cultivars to specific grades based on probability distribution or arithmetical progression. We found that short thorn length, fruits per bearing branch, and ratio of kernel have the highest variation coefficient (1.42, 1.00, and 0.92), while ratio of edibility, growing days, and flower diameter have the lowest. Most biological characters (78%) exhibited normal distributions across the population sampled. However, short thorn length, fruits per bearing branch, ratio of kernel, years before fruiting and fruit weight revealed skewed distribution patterns, possibly influenced by years of artificial selection. Our findings will facilitate the efficient use of available Chinese jujube cultivars for future research and commercial purposes.
