High-performance near-infrared fluorescence probe for simultaneous detection of sulfur dioxide and viscosity and its application in bioimagings and wines

摘要: The levels of sulfur dioxide (SO2) and viscosity are crucial indicators of changes in the biological microenvironment, playing vital roles in food and biological systems. Therefore, the accurate detection of these indicators is of paramount importance. This study presents a novel fluorescent probe, BDI, which possesses the remarkable ability to simultaneously and efficiently recognize both SO2 and viscosity with two cross-talk-free emissions (featuring a wavelength difference of 296 nm). The recognition mechanism of SO2 is based on the Michael addition reaction. This reaction demonstrated exceptional selectivity for SO2 coupled with high sensitivity (as low as 54 nM) and a swift response time (less than 4 min). Moreover, probe BDI effectively identified viscosity in the near-infrared emission region (at 730 nm). The probe displayed excellent mitochondrial localization ability, rendering it suitable for monitoring fluctuations in SO2 levels and viscosity during mitochondrial dysfunction. Furthermore, probe BDI was successfully employed to image changes in SO2 and viscosity content in the stem base of wheat and to detect SO2 in different wines with good recovery (95.6 %-101.8 %).
