摘要: Most organisms develop biological rhythms to optimize diel activities and better adapt to oscillating environments. Trichogramma parasitoids, which are key biocontrol agents largely used against insect pests, have specific oviposition and adult emergence rhythms that can be modified by exogenous and endogenous factors. However, the emergence rhythm of Trichogramma adults developing from eggs laid at different periods of the day has still been scarcely documented. We studied the emergence rhythm of adults developing from eggs laid at different periods in a day (00:00-06:00, 06:00-12:00,12:00-18:00 and 18:00-24:00) for five Trichogramma species frequently used for biological control in China. We aimed to document the impact of endogenous circadian rhythms in the regulation of oviposition and adult emergence in these parasitoids. We demonstrated that the emergence timing of adults, which developed from eggs laid at different periods of the day, was identical among the periods; for all species tested, the peak of adult emergence occurred on average at 1 h following the onset of light and no adult emergence occurred during the dark period. Trichogramma females showed higher parasitism rates in the 06:00-12:00 and 12:00-18:00 treatments than in the 00:00-06:00 and 18:00-24:00 ones. Males emerged before females (protandry) in all species regardless of treatments. Our results supported the general idea that Trichogramma parasitoids should be released in fields in the afternoon i.e. before adult emergence; it could help shortening exposure time of parasitized eggs to adverse conditions and also to lower potential negative impact of abiotic and/or biotic factors on newly-emerged adults.
