摘要: Fish from the Tetraodontidae family offer compact and flavorful meat, and are increasingly in demand in East and South Asian markets, including China, Japan, South Korea, and India due to their high nutritional, practical, and economic value. Takifugu rubripes is currently one of the most economically important farmed pufferfish in China, Japan, and South Korea. The accumulation of tetrodotoxin (TTX)-a lethal neurotoxin-in pufferfish has gained considerable attention in aquacultural animal breeding research. However, research on the effects of TTX on gonadal metabolism in T. rubripes is limited. To address this research gap, in this study, we used metabolomics and other techniques to conduct a preliminary exploration of how TTX affects ovarian metabolism in T. rubripes. The results revealed that TTX improved the ovarian tissue developmental quality and metabolism in T. rubripes by enhancing the activity of functional enzymes such as superoxide dismutase and lysozyme. These enhancements increased the content of beneficial metabolites such as pregnenolone and reduced the content of harmful metabolites such as indole-3-acetic acid. Overall, this study provides a theoretical basis for improving the quality of ovarian development in T. rubripes parental fish, thereby improving the breeding value and economic potential of the species.
