Karyotype analysis of Barbus capito (Guldentstadt, 1773) using curve measurement software

摘要: The chromosome is the main carrier of genetic information. Chromosome number and karyotype are important research subjects in cytogenetics. They play a signi?cant role in understanding and exploring evolution, classi?cation systems and the evolutionary relationships among the chromosomes of organisms. They also provide the cytogenetic basis for ?sh genetic breeding (Jin et al., 2007). Research into ?sh chromosomes started in the 1960s when Ojima et al. (1966) ?rst used an air-drying technique to study the chromosomes of funa and gold?sh (Ojima et al., 1966). So far, among the 20 000 species of ?sh worldwide, the karyotypes of about 1600 species have been studied. These studies have mainly been performed in the cypriniformes, cyprinodontiformes and perciformes (Wu and Gui, 1999), including over 70 species of barbinae (Zan et al., 1984; Lou, 1997). However, until now, there has been no report of the karyotype of Barbus capito. Barbus capito belongs to cyprinidae, barbinae and barbus and originated from the Aral Sea in Uzbekistan. In 2003, the Chinese Academy of Fishery Science introduced the ?sh into China. In recent years, studies on Barbus capito have concentrated on conservation genetics (Geng et al., 2012), reproductive biology (Geng et al., 2010; Xu et al., 2011) and cultivation biology (Lin et al., 2009; Geng et al., 2011). Thus, by determining the karyotype of Barbus capito, this article aims to understand the cytogenetic characteristics of the species and to provide the theoretical basis for the establishment of an idioplasmic standard and the genetic breeding of Barbus capito.
