摘要: The Pearl River once supported 321 sh species, 208 of which were freshwater species and 113 estuarine species in the lower reaches (Liao et al., 1989), with the major Chinese carps being dominant (Li et al., 2005; Tan et al., 2010). The river is 2218 km in length, with a catchment area of 450 000 km 2 and a mean annual discharge volume of 3.3 9 10 11 m 3 . Fish spawning grounds for the economically most important species are in the middle and upper sections of the Xi Jiang River, which is the main stream of the Pearl River. These sh need to migrate and spawn in habitats upstream of the Changzhou Dam.
