Preliminary Study on the Relationship between Land Surface Temperature and Occurrence of Yellow Rust in Winter Wheat

摘要: The occurrence and prevalence of wheat yellow rust has severe impact on wheat yield loss and grain quality. The air temperature and humidity are the most direct and important indicators of occurrence of yellow rust fungal. Generally, weather stations can provide the dynamic pattern of meteorological data for site sampled, yet not able to include the information of spatial heterogeneity. Fortunately, remote sensing technology has great potential for providing spatially continuous observations of some variables over large areas. The present study acquired time-series moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) land surface temperature products (MOD11) and field investigations within the key growth stage of wheat in 2008 and 2009, and conducted an analysis between land surface temperature (LST) and the occurrence of the yellow rust disease with the aid of statistic analysis. The results showed a significant correlation between incidence of yellow rust and the temporal LST which composed by the LST data in winter wheat key growth stages, and the study indicated the proper LST range which was suitable to occurrence of wheat yellow rust and LST of suitable area was classified according to incidence. It was verified that the prediction yellow rust occurrence results based on LST was consistent with field investigation. Therefore, it indicated that the LST was an effective indicator for predicting the occurrence of wheat yellow rust over large scale.
