Dual-color aggregation-induced emission nanoparticles for hue ratio-based fluorescence lateral flow immunoassay of zearalenone in cereals

摘要: Lateral flow immunoassay (LFIA) is an attractive method for the rapid detection of small molecule pollutants. Here, a novel hue recognition ratio fluorescence LFIA platform was developed to achieve multicolor visualization and quantitative detection of zearalenone (ZEN) using dual-color aggregation-induced emission nanoparticles (AIE NPs). The color change mechanism was mainly based on the competitive fluorescence intensity between red and green AIE NPs, which gradually transitions from red to yellow and green as the concentration of ZEN increased. The visible limit of detection (vLOD) for a visual semiquantitative reading of ZEN was 0.5 ng mL- 1. Furthermore, the LOD and limit of quantification (LOQ) for a fluorescence quantitative reading of ZEN was 0.11 and 0.21 ng mL- 1 with a substantial linear range of 0.21-1.58 ng mL- 1. Additionally, the vLODs and LODs for ZEN detection in maize and wheat were 0.4 and 1 ng mL- 1, and 0.08 and 0.09 ng mL- 1, respectively, which satisfied the requirements for the detection of ZEN contamination in cereals. This study presents a new strategy for the visualization and on-site detection of ZEN and can be extended to detect other small molecule pollutants.
