Complete genomic sequence of Hibiscus latent Fort Pierce virus in a new host, Passilora edulis, in China

摘要: Hibiscus latent Fort Pierce virus (HLFPV) is a tobamovirus with a few species of the family Malvaceae as its natural host. Here, we reported the identification of HLFPV in passion fruit (Passilora edulis) in China. The complete genome of the passion fruit isolate of HLFPV (HLFPV-LY) was determined. The genome consists of 6459 nucleotides and contains four ORFs, each encoding a protein of 128, 187, 38 and 18 kDa proteins, respectively. Sequence analysis indicates that HLFPV-LY shares more than 90% (the threshold value of the species demarcation for the genus) whole genome nucleotide sequence identity with five HLFPV isolates and an isolate of Abutilon yellow mosaic virus isolate (AbYMV-ah). Phylogenetic analysis indicates that HLFPV-LY clustered together with the five HLFPV isolates and AbYMV-ah. Taken together, our results suggest that HLFPV-LY and AbYMV-Ah are isolates of HLFPV. To our knowledge, this is the first report of HLFPV infecting passiflora plants and the complete genome sequence of an isolate of Hibiscus latent Fort Pierce virus infecting P. edulis in China.
