摘要: The introduction of winter wheat and its northward production expansion have promoted farming system reform in the Yellow River Ningxia Valley, a previously spring wheat production area. Winter wheat is better adapted to local conditions, and could increase yield 39% more than spring wheat, which had good quality. Early winter wheat cultivars could mature 20 days earlier than spring wheat. Winter wheat would be good for double or multiple cropping. Scientists have challenged traditional farming system and succeeded in the Valley. The new planting system will utilize Ningxia natural resources, such as sunlight, heat, water and land, etc. For double cropping, more than 15 ton per hectare grain yield, or 7.5 ton per hectare winter wheat and 15 thousand Yuan (1.8 thousand USD) per hectare income from multiple-cropped-vegetables have been achieved. These new cropping cycles could increase net income 42% to 80% per unit area compared to the traditional cycle. New winter wheat lines have been bred, which came from reciprocal crosses of winter wheat and local spring wheat.
