摘要: Studies were carried out in the Inner Mongolian steppe grassland to assess the damage of the grasshopper Oedaletts asiaticus B. Bienko on compensation growth of forage. The studies were under different grasshopper densities (0, 4, 8, 16, 24 grasshoppers/m(2)) at 5 different instar levels (3rd instars, 4th instars, 5th instars and adults), and their effects were compared. The results showed that grasshoppers at relatively low population density levels (0-4 grasshoppers/m(2)) had obvious positive effect on compensation growth of forage, while population of 8-16 grasshoppers/m(2) under low instars (3rd instars, 4th instars) were beneficial to the growth of grass and had a overcompensation function to herbs. Feeding of 5th instar and adult grasshoppers with high density population (>8 grasshoppers/m(2)) was damaged to the growth of forage grass and the quality of pasture ground decreased with the increase of grasshopper density. The results indicated that due to the compensation growth of herbs caused by grasshoppers, the controlling index of grasshoppers should employ the ecological threshold which was higher than the common used existing economic threshold.
