Disinfection effect and application of slightly acidic electrolyzed water in a dairy cattle farm

摘要: Slightly acidic electrolyzed water (SIAEW) is generated by electrolysis of a mixture of dilute sodium chloride and hydrochloric acid solution in a non-membrane electrolytic cell. SIAEW with a pH value of 5.0-6.5 and higher hypochlorous acid (HCIO) concentration has been proved to have strong bactericidal activity and no chemical pollution due to its rapid decomposition. An experiment was carried out to investigate the disinfection efficiency of SIAEW on teat-dipping of milking cows, and the effect was compared with that by using 0.5% povidone iodine (PVP-l)~Tbe results showed that the bactericidal index of SIAEW increased as the increase ofACC and bath time of teat-dipping. The average bactericidal index to total aerobic bacteria reached up to 2.21logCFU/cm~2 by using SIAEW with ACC of 60mg/L and a bath time of 15s, while the average bactericidal index of 0.5% PVP-I was approximately 1.52logCFU/cm~2. Holding-up time is critical for the teat-dipping bath to achieve better disinfection efficiency. The bactericidal index of direct teat-flushing using SIAEW with a low ACC (20mg/L) was 1.47logCFU/cm~2. After a 20-day test, the subclinical mastitis incidence of the dairy cows by application of the SIAEW on the teats before and after milking decreased by12.9%.
