摘要: In the directives of the United States Environmental Protection Agency as well as in European directives, the maximum contaminant level of arsenic in drinking water was recently proposed to be reduced to 10 μg/L from the current 50 μg/L level. A number of studies on the removal of arsenic from potable water have been published recently. Arsenic occurs in potable waters in both the trivalent and pentavalent state depending on the oxidation/reduction potential of the water. As(V) is found as arsenic acid, H_3AsO_4 which has pK_(a1), pK_(a2) and pK_(a3) values of 2.2, 7.0 and 11.5 respectively. The pH of potable water is in the range of 6.5 to 8.5. In this pH range, arsenic acid is found both as H_2AsO_4~- and HAsO_4~(2-)(Figure 1).
