摘要: Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles are invisible to Air Traffic Control (ATC) primary radar. While stealth characteristics offer advantages during covert military operations, the inability of ATC (military or civil) to monitor UAV flight paths prevents ATC from providing traffic separation services. Aviation transponders solve this problem by making equipped aircraft visible to modern ATC radar systems. Whereas traditional transponders are too big to be carried by small UAVs, new products are emerging that incorporate impressive miniaturization and advanced functions allowing UAVs as small as 10 pounds to carry full-featured transponders and traffic awareness systems. This paper serves as a primer on past and present day transponder systems (Mode A, C, S, ADS-B, TCAS, etc), and discusses the relevance of these systems to UAV operators.
