摘要： This paper presents a preliminary study of usability anduser acceptance of South African University Web Portals(UWPIs).The main purpose of this study is to evaluateweb portal interfaces of South African universities fortheir usability and user acceptance. The motivation forconducting these portal evaluations is to suggestimprovement and guidelines to enhance the usability anduser acceptance of South African (UWPIs). An evaluationframework has been identified to be used as the criteria tohelp establish design guidelines and techniques for thestudy. Questionnaire based on the framework was used tocollect data for the evaluation of the interfaces using userparticipatory method. The targeted user groups includeexisting students in the institutions, students seekinginformation, staff members, the public, potentialemployers and job seekers. A prototype web portalinterface based on the results of the main survey will bedeveloped to validate the results of the data analysis. Theresults from this study will provide guidelines for theevaluation of South African UWPIs for their usability andacceptance. Preliminary results of the pilot study showthat South African UWPIs do not meet usability and useracceptance.
