摘要: The colloidal interactions of associative polymers and pigments in the presence of dispersants is complex. This is because, in addition to good particle dispersion, both bridging and depletion flocculation can occur. Therefore, dispersion phase diagrams (DPD’s) were developed to help visualize these interactions. Previous work described DPD’s for latexes. Presented here are examples of DPD’s for model HEUR and HASE associative polymers and titanium dioxide pigments in the presence of dispersants. HEUR stands for “Hydrophobically modified Ethoxylated URethanes” and HASE stands for “Hydrophobically modified Alkali Soluble Emulsions”. The effects of associative polymer concentration, titanium dioxide (TiO2) grade, and dispersant concentration and type are explored.
