Developing fine-tuned MOF membranes for highly efficient separation and adsorption of chemical pollutant in water

摘要: The increasing development of industrialization bring massive amounts of pollutants, which ultimately poses a great danger to human health. Metal-organic framework (MOF), a new type of porous organic nanomaterial, is characterized by a large specific surface area, rich pore space, and adjustable structure, which can efficiently treat water pollution combining with membrane separation technology. First of all, the paper presents an overview of the preparation and modification of MOF membranes for the removal of water pollutants. Meanwhile, this review provides a comprehensive analysis of MOF membranes, from the effect of structural design on separation. Specifically, the authors innovatively categorize strategies to enhance MOF membrane performance into three aspects (different dimensionality, metal centers and ligands, and functional groups) to guide the specific removal of pollutants. Lastly, this review provides a brief overview of the performance of MOF membranes for the adsorption and separation of common pollutants, and presents future trends and challenges. This review is expected to provide valuable insights and ideas for researchers to remove organic pollutants from water by effectively modifying the MOF structure.
