摘要： Echinococcosis, also known as hydatid disease or hydatidosis, is caused by the cystic larvae of the canine taenid tapeworm Echinococcus. Two species, E. granulosus and E. multilocularis, are of importance. Only the former is found in the United Kingdom, although E. multilocularis does occur in the Ardennes, Germany, Switzerland and further east. There are two strains of E. granulosus which occur in the British Isles, namely E. granulosus granulosus and E. granulosus equinus, both of which are found as adults in wild and domestic Canidae. Both strains occur in Great Britain with gravid cysts mainly in sheep and horses, respectively, but only E. equinus occurs in Ireland.
