摘要: Meyerozyma guilliermondii and M. caribbica are environmental yeasts commonly used in industry due to their ability to synthesize different enzymes and chemicals. Here, all biocontrol methods for the management of plant pathogens using M. guilliermondii and M. caribbica were reviewed for the first time. The efficacy, advantages, and disadvantages of the methods are discussed throughout the manuscript. M. guilliermondii and M. caribbica have been used for the management of fungal pathogens and nematodes, and showed various modes of action, including the production of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and hydrolytic enzymes, competition for space and nutrients, and induction of disease resistance. The mentioned strains were mainly used for the management of fungal pathogens in postharvest fruits and showed high inhibitory efficacy; however, little information is available regarding their potential use in other plant tissues. Some strains cause diseases in humans, which is a concern that must be examined before commercialization. The efficacy of the strains was improved when combining the yeasts with heat and CO2, but it was decreased when applying the yeast cells with waxes. Even though M. guilliermondii and M. caribbica strains have demonstrated broad spectrum of antifungal activity and high efficacy for the control of plant fungal pathogens in postharvest fruits, there is still much to be understood about their biocontrol properties, host spectrum, and safety evidence.
